Code of Conduct
Code of conduct Gothenburg Fringe Festival
Diversity and inclusion

The following code of conduct does not override the code of conduct of any venues or local laws. By establishing this code of conduct, we aim to ensure that Gothenburg Fringe remains a friendly, welcoming, and safe space for everybody.

Gothenburg Fringe is committed to the principles of anti-bullying, anti-harassment, and anti-discrimination, while allowing for the diverse experimentation and sometimes difficult subject matters that may be presented by our artists. The intention of these guidelines is to inform and promote joyful diversity, empathy, and mutual respect in all collaborations among artists, audience, volunteers and all involved in the festival organisation.
Our events and gatherings are designed to be inclusive experiences for everyone without prejudice to any age, background, body size, physical appearance, color, ethnicity, marital or partnership status, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship status, physical appearance, physical or mental ability, race, religion, socio-economic status, or any other dimension of diversity.
Rights Reserved by Gothenburg Fringe
The Festival aims to create a welcoming, respectful, and safe environment for all attendees. We have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment in any form. Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately and may be asked to leave at our discretion. We reserve the right to take action, including warnings or expulsion, and turn down applications if the applicant has a history of harassment or any other inappropriate behaviors in the interest of maintaining a positive atmosphere. We also reserve the right to refuse applications that promote sexism, racism, homophobia or any other prejudice in their work that we feel goes against our code of conduct.
Agreement
This code of conduct outlines the guidelines we expect all participants to follow and requires their agreement and adherence. In the spirit of an open and inclusive Fringe community, we ask you to commit to the following:
Understand and foster an environment that is free of harassment, sexual harassment, violence, and discrimination in any form. Support and welcome all backgrounds and identities. Our Code of Conduct is a community pledge for all participants in the Fringe, whether you are an artist, volunteer, staff, audience member, or in any way taking part in our organisation and Festival. If you participate in the Fringe, you have the right to be treated with respect and dignity and also the obligation to treat others in the same way.
Expexted behaviour
Show and practice respect. Be considerate of others' feelings and demonstrate politeness in your interactions. Treat everyone with the same dignity you expect from them. Value personal growth and listen actively before making assumptions. Engage in constructive dialogue and be open-minded to diverse perspectives.
Prioritize safety. Enjoy yourself responsibly and ensure the well-being of yourself and others avoiding any potential harm. Maintain cleanliness and environmental consciousness, respecting festival venues and outdoor spaces.
Embrace diversity. Foster inclusivity in communication and collaboration, ensuring all individuals feel welcomed and valued. Address challenges and concerns openly and inclusively when they occur.
Respect consent. Understand that consent applies to all interactions, not just intimate ones, and seek mutual agreement in all engagements.
Support each other. Prevent and stop harassment, not only through refraining from engaging in harassing behavior yourself, but by stopping it, when appropriate and safe. Seek assistance from event staff if it looks like someone is in trouble. We are a community.
Prohibited behaviour
Any and all behavior that is harmful to living beings is by default prohibited.
The prohibited behaviors include but are not limited to:
Demeaning, discriminatory, intimidating, violent, bullying, or harassing behavior, including:
Physically or verbally offending or humiliating someone. Bullying through physical or verbal means, including cyberbullying. Threatening or intimidating behavior. Engaging in physical violence or using violent language.
Making unwelcome jokes or comments about someone's gender, sexual orientation, disability, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, citizenship status, religion or any other dimension of diversity.
Engaging in “microaggressions”, insults toward any marginalized group or showing disrespect for diverse cultural backgrounds.
Deliberate “outing” intimidation of any aspect of a person’s identity without their consent or stalking individuals.
Inciting violence or self-harm.
Disrupting events or meetings.
Zero-tolerance policy towards unwelcome sexual attention and sexual harassment, including:
Making sexualized comments, jokes, or gestures. Offensively targeting a person's gender identity, appearance, or sexual boundaries.
Staring, leering, or engaging in unnecessary familiarity or physical contact without consent.
Possession of dangerous items and theft, such as:
Displaying explicit or violent material. Possessing explosives, firearms, weapons, or unauthorized items. Theft or inappropriate removal of property.
Nudity policy
Respect sexual boundaries in rehearsals and performances. Inform festival organizers in advance if nudity may occur on stage. Performers will not interact with the audience while nude without prior notification.
So, is that all?

In an ideal world, a Code of Conduct wouldn't be needed, but we believe in being proactive and clear about our community expectations. We're continuously learning and improving, and we value your input. Please share any suggestions on how we can make the Fringe a better experience for all at info@gbgfringe.com.
Wishing you all a joyful and inspiring festival! Your Gothenburg Fringe team.
