Artists are invited to register interest for a paid international residency and performance opportunity as Gothenburg Fringe in Sweden, FringeMTL in Canada and Reykjavik Fringe in Iceland have joined forces for the Fringe Arts Exchange project.

We’re bringing three artists based Sweden, Canada and Iceland together to devise a brand new performance. In keeping with the spirit of Fringe, this project is an experiment in collaboration between artists from different backgrounds and artistic disciplines with no pre-conceived theme or boundaries.

The Fringe Arts Exchange project, funded by a grant from the Government of Québec and the Nordic Council of Ministers will see an artist chosen by each of the three partner festivals to develop a new performance together, created over the course of three five-day residencies hosted during each of the partner festivals.

The dates of the three festivals are:

Fringe MTL: 27 May - 16 June (residency planned around 11-16 June) Reykjavik Fringe: 17-23 June Gothenburg Fringe: 30 August - 8 September

The work will then be presented in Gothenburg during a seasonal showcase in late 2024 with the exact dates to be decided.

Flights and accommodation will be provided for the three chosen artists, plus a fee of 12,000 SEK.

Artists focused on any art form are welcome to apply with a proposal, understanding that the work developed will have an interdisciplinary approach and will be devised together with the selected artists based in all three cities.

The deadline for proposals will be Monday 13 May, after which representatives from all three festivals will meet to select the artists to participate in the project. Please note that only artists with a base in Västra Götaland will be considered to represent Gothenburg Fringe.

Submit your application here. Questions about the application and project can be sent to chris@gbgfringe.com.
