Open call for United Cowboys Co-creation Biotope

Updated: Dec 28, 2021

Gothenburg Fringe and United Cowboys have launched an open call for a co-creation called The Body as a Reference for (R)Evolution, to be created and performed in Gothenburg between 25 February and 5 March.

The Body as Reference for (R)Evolution represents a new collaboration in the frame of Perform Europe – an EU-funded project which aims to rethink cross-border performing arts presentation in a more inclusive, sustainable and balanced way.

This project emphasises the human dimension, the physical, in times of technology and digitalised dialogues also promoting the tangibility of all senses and bringing live experiences back into focus.

Gothenburg Fringe is a presenting partner alongside UA Association ‘Contemporary Dance Platform’ (Ukraine) and ACT - Association for Independent Theatre (Bulgaria).

The three presenting partners have invited United Cowboys to execute and develop their Biotope concept in a chain of performances, that take along local artists, selected materials and content from each city to the next, and present these in relevant, unconventional locations.

The project will be accompanied by a digital platform, meaning the process will be documented and partly published.

Read the full call, including information on the Biotope concept, The Body as a Reference for (R)Evolution and an overview of the process in the pdf below.

How to apply?

We are looking for professional artists. To participate in the co-creation, it is recommended to have experience in art (any form) and have the eagerness to explore new ways and new approaches. Including skills and or affinity with physicality and movement.

Education in dance is an advantage, but not a requirement. Also, performers, mimers, musicians and fine art artists are welcome to apply.

We are looking for a diverse group of participants in skills, age and background; going from the motto that we are a group of individuals.

From the co-creation in Gothenburg, it is possible that a few participants will be invited to join other Biotopes 2022 in Kyiv, Ukraine and Sofia, Bulgaria.

Physicality is a key aspect of the co-creation and even more so given the challenging times we are going through.

Applications can be made below or through this link. The deadline is 30 January 2022.

There is only room for a limited number of participants in this co-creation. Chosen artists will be paid for their participation in the creation process and public performance.

Feel free to send any questions about the call and the project to chris@gbgfringe.com.
