Full steam ahead for Gothenburg Fringe 2021

We are delighted to announce that Gothenburg Fringe Festival will go ahead as planned on 8-13 September 2021.

Following a meeting of the core team last week, it was agreed that the current easing of restrictions in Sweden and positive outlook for September meant that we will go ahead with “Plan A” for the Fringe, a decision met with enthusiasm by our partners and participants.

"We are looking forward to Gothenburg Fringe 2021 with excitement! Teaming up with a gang of local artists, we made what seemed impossible possible last year creating a smaller festival.

"This year we have the ambition to involve international artists again and give a wider audience a chance enjoy the arts in the safest way possible. Here we go!" says Gothenburg Fringe President Elin Hansson.

Building on 2020

In 2020, we chose to implement a shorter, Corona-safe, version of the festival with four festival days instead of six, using only local artists and adapted audience seating to reduce the risk of infection spreading.

The festival was a great success for both artists and audiences and 90% of tickets were sold, with all ticket money going directly to artists.

For this year's Fringe, which is scheduled to take place on 8-13 September, we plan to welcome both international and local artists.

In order to minimise possible risks, we’ll be booking 10-12 venues, allowing us to spread out audiences and host more shows. We will also feature interactive digital performances and outdoor performances in our program, making Gothenburg Fringe 2021 our most accessible event to date.

Once again, we will release a detailed COVID safety plan to ensure we are well prepared for any change in restrictions.

We are already in the planning stage with this year’s performers and will begin announcing participants on Wednesday 16 June with the full programme scheduled for release in early July.
