The global health crisis has had an impact on us all and left us all in need of some good news and some live performance art, which is where we come in.
Gothenburg Fringe stands strong and will go ahead with our 5th anniversary festival this year, but with a bit of a twist. The 2020 event will take place on 3-6 September, sticking with a smaller festival, featuring local acts.
We're already in communication with the venues we'll be hosting performances in this year about maintaining safety standards and ensuring artists and audience will be able to take part in a responsible manner.
Travel restrictions may be eased by that point, but we felt the only responsible thing to do is go forward with the recommendations currently in place in Sweden. It would be unfair of us to commit to something now when we do not know for sure whether it will be safe to travel and perform.
However, we're still committed to bringing international art to our local community as soon as it's safe to do so, so we will begin hosting Fringe showcases in late 2020 and early 2021, which we'll begin to plan once restrictions are lifted.
There is still an opportunity for the people of Gothenburg to get involved. If you’d like to volunteer then come this way, while local performers can contact chris@gbgfringe.com.
In the meantime, keep your Fringe spirits up with a highlight video from the 2019 event below.
